BNP Paribas Group formed in 2000 by the merger of retail Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) and investment Paribas.
BNP traces its history to 1848, when they were created Comptoir National d'Escompte de Paris and the Comptoir National d'Escompter de Mulhouse. Paribas leads the story in 1872, when it was founded by Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas (where the second part of the name) as a result of the merger of Banque de Paris, created in 1869 and the Banque de credit et de Depot, founded in 1863 in Amsterdam.
The Bank conducts business in 80 countries, including Russia. In Ukraine, the bank owns 84.99% of the shares of "UkrSibbank".
